Moise Katumbi
We might have been a little quick to judge Mr Ibrahim for clienteling with Kagame.
As a business man with serious investments in Congo and Africa in general, it only makes sense that he would want to be on the good side of the chairman of the African Union who unfortunately happens to be a savvy dictator.
Looking back at it all , considering how business and politics are very closely intertwined ,Mr Ibrahim’s main concern in Kigali was DR Congo.
He praised Kagame for how effectively his country was run and he mentioned DR Congo’ s difficulties and unrest , it is no secret that they fuelled by its mineral wealth , in which Kagame has a hand in.
These major conferences that are attended by the big names in politics and finance are really all about opportunism.
We cannot be so naive as to expect the moral high ground to be the motivation behind such gatherings.
Even philanthropy serves the purpose of politicians and they themselves serve obscure interests that are not always evident at first glance.
Some will say that this conference was organised under the guise of rewarding the first elected African female head of state Ellen Johnson Sirleaf (Liberia), who is also credited to have left the presidential seat democratically when now President Georges Weah took office.
It has not gone unnoticed that Moise Katumbi was hailed as the possible right man to replace Joseph Kabila Jr .
