A UPDF Officer has collapsed on parade during celebrations to mark the 29th NRA/NRM victory anniversary in Luweero district.

The incident occurred at Kalasa Primary School where the district is holding parallel events in commemoration of the day the NRA/M took over power, following a five-year guerrilla war.

Official celebrations for the day are taking place at Boma Grounds in Soroti town.

The officer, who collapsed after spending close to three hours on parade, is identified as Lawrence Ochello attached to Bombo Military Barracks. He was rushed to Makulubita Health Center III after receiving first aid.

Eyewitness recount that there was a stampede as a team comprising of the army and medical officers rushed to save the officer who was lying unconscious.  The function came to halt for 10 minutes.

Luweero district Health Educator Henry Namakola explained that the officer could have been dehydrated. He adds that other tests are being conducted to establish the exact cause of the condition.

By time of compiling the report, the function had resumed and Speaker by speaker lead by Deputy Resident District Commissioner Persis Namuganza and Abdul Nadduli were hailing President Yoweri Museveni for leading the struggle that ended the Milton Obote regime
