It is now 2years since the former Rwandan intelligence Chief Col. Patrick Karegeya was murdered in a Johannesburg hotel room.  After falling out with his former ally, Rwandan President Paul Kagame in 2006 he fled to South Africa, he was later accused by Kigali regime of involvement in terrorist attacks in the Rwandan capital, Kigali.

The Great Lakes Human Rights Link is seriously concerned with the delay by the South African legal system to bring to book the murders of Col. Patrick Karegeya. Its an open secret that the Government of Rwanda had a hand in the murder of Col. Karegeya. According to the South African Judge, the murders and attempted murder of Rwandan dissidents were politically motivated. “The magistrate has correctly observed that the conspiracy to kill me was politically motivated,” Gen. Nyamwasa said.

While the Rwandan government has consistently denied trying to kill its opponents, the murder of Col. Patrick Karegeya was publicly cerebrated by the Rwandan Head of State Paul Kagame. “You cannot betray Rwanda and get away with it. There are consequences for betraying your country.”

“I cannot be apologetic about that if you know the grenades that have been thrown on our streets killing Rwandan children,” he said.

Prior fleeing to South Africa Col..Karegeya had been convicted in absentia of threatening state security and promoting ethnic divisions, in connection with a series of grenade attacks in the capital, Kigali.

“Anyone who betrays our cause or wishes our people ill will fall victim. What remains to be seen is how you fall victim,” Mr Kagame said. This is not only circumstantial evidence but factual evidence that the South African legal system should collect and use to bring to Justice those who killed Col. Karegeya

Indeed, this should be done in the reasonable time, because Justice delayed is Justice denied.
