Rwanda: Intimidation of opposition parties must end
According to Amnesty International, the RPF Regime has continued to suppress perceived Rwandan opposition groups, this has led to many fleeing the country, killed or rendered impotent politically.
Amnesty International has urged Kagame to use democracy as an opportunity to show the government’s commitment to freedom of expression, association, and peaceful assembly.
The RPF regime has continually used government institutions to harass or intimidate its perceived opponents. Indeed, it’s in this regard that on 16/11/2020, in the online mouthpiece of IGIHE.COM, the Rwandan parliament which is just a rubber stamp of Kagame’s wishes invited the Minister of Finance and Economic development to testify in what they termed as misappropriation of funds in the RPF Controlled Company (RWANDA PRINTING COMPANY (RPC).
The above company was accused of running uncoordinated work and is operated by individuals who don’t follow the decisions made by the government. According to the Auditor-General, this Company lacks direction and this has resulted in poor or underperformance.
They further accused the Rwanda Printing Company (RPC) of losing 3.5 billion and awarding the tender of supplying materials worth 1.2 billion with legal procedures as required by law.
It is in this regard that, the former Director of the above Company GUS MURANGIRA died a mysterious death occasioned to people who the government perceives as enemies or those they want to eliminate for different reasons.
In the same development, Bora Martine one of the leaders of Rwanda Printing Company (RPC) was intimidated and fled to Europe, she was preparing to contest for a Parliamentary seat.
Indeed, those who remained in Rwanda were subjected to concocted charges in the Kagame courts but the truth is that they were perceived to be political opponents because they attended meetings with RPF Political Competitors.
Some of the mentioned people in the above political vendetta are PIUS RUHINDA, IRIBAGIZA ROSE, JUVENAL HANYURWABAKE, and PLACIDE NDAYISABA NDEMEYE.
Amnesty International calls on the Rwandan government to investigate the intimidation of opposition groups, bring those responsible to justice and take immediate steps to respect the rights to freedom of expression, freedom of association, and peaceful assembly of opposition parties.
