A new rebel group has allegedly been formed in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, according to Kasese Resident District Commissioner, Retired Major James Mwesigye.

He said the group has been named ‘Sikiryamuba’ a Lukhonzo word loosely translated “Cowards never rule.”  The RDC explains that Sikiryamuba is a formation of the remnants of the group that conducted the July 5 attacks in which over 100 people were killed in Kasese, Bundibugyo and Ntoroko. He revealed the development yesterday at Rwenzori Square in Kasese town while presiding over the district celebrations marking the 52nd anniversary of Uganda’s independence.

He said Intelligence reports have already established that the group was allegedly planning to link with other negative forces with an aim of attacking Uganda.

The UPDF spokesperson for the Rwenzori Region Capt. Ceaser Olweny confirmed that intelligence reports have already established the formation of the group and its location.

He however downplays its strength saying it is a small group that is being closely monitored by the intelligence system within the UPDF.Olweny also has reservations on whether the group was part of those who attacked the military barracks at Kanyamirima in Bundibugyo district on July 5.

At least 55 attackers were shot dead when a group of people armed with spears, machetes, bows and some guns attacked the army barracks outside Bundibugyo town.
Twenty two guns were stolen from the barracks armory but some of them were later recovered in the deep villages of the mountains.

Capt. Olweny has asked the people of Kasese and Bundibugyo to remain vigilant and report immediately any attempts of recruitment from the suspected rebel group.

He adds that the UPDF is on the ground ready to defend the sovereignty of the country.

If the alleged rebel group comes out clearly, it will be second to the Allied Democratic Forces who continue threatening fresh attacks on the country.
