Here is why Ambassador Nduhungirehe got the sack!
It is now old news that Ambassador loose canon Nduhungirehe got the sack. When the news broke, we turned to his playground twitter account to understand what gaffe earned him HE’s wrath.
On March 22nd, 2020, Ambassador Nduhungirehe audaciously defended Ms. Victoire Ingabire against the habitual trolling and bullying the opposition politician is routinely subjected to. Only this time the President’s daughter had joined in the trolling, though later deleting her ” I have to laugh * laughing emojis* opposition is not by force ” tweet.
The ambassador’s boldness earned him congratulatory reactions from people such as Philip Reyntjens… He would have been sacked the same day, but it would have been too obvious for the stunned observer used to the Ambassador’s sycophancy.
Fast forward to a few days later, the ambassador is trapped into a conversation that corners him into making easily misinterpreted comments and voila…
One has to feel sorry for Ambassador Nduhungirehe who was gracious enough to thank H.E. for his sack and assert his readiness and availability for what service he might still be able to give.
But Nduhungirehe can still “muddle through”. As one Foreign Affairs official in Kigali put it,“…if he remains on his best behavior he may be rehabilitated and sent to EALA in 6 months”.
Sympathizing with Ms. Victoire Ingabire is becoming a worrying new trend in government circles for RPF sympathizers and hardliners.
