Desire Luzinda Arrested
Police at the Entebbe International Airport have arrested musician Desire Luzinda for failure to pay a debt of UGX27million she borrowed from a University lecturer..
The singer was arrested on Saturday morning at the Airport on arrival from Nairobi, Kenya.
Police spokesperson, Fred Enanga, who confirmed her arrest, said Luzinda refused to respond to summons by Police after a case of obtaining money by false pretense was filed against her by a University lecturer whose identity he refused to disclose.
He said the lecturer from Cavendish University complained to police that they entered into business of staging shows with the singer, but when he paid UGX24 million to stage a show at Serena Hotel, the musician disappeared.
Enanga explained that when the complaint was registered police summoned her several times but she declined to respond until today when she was arrested on a tip off from police at the International Airport.
Apart from the first case the singer is also been investigated for alleged forgery together with her former boyfriend Franklin Banguma, a Nigerian who claimed to be Ugandan from Mbarara and processed a Ugandan passport with the help of the musician.
He said after her arrest in Entebbe Luzinda was handed over to officers from the special investigations division and taken to Kireka where they obtained her statement but he did not disclose whether she has been released or not.
It is believed that Desire was from Congo Brazzaville where she had staged a concert.
Last year the musician was arrested after she failed to pay a UGX20 million debt.
She was later rescued by former Kampala city mayor Nasser Ntege Ssebagala who paid UGX14 million to get her released.
