Mbabazi detained at Kira road police
Former Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi was on Thursday detained at Kira Road Police Station in Kampala after being arrested at Njeru in Jinja as he tried to force his way to Mbale district where he was due to hold consultative meetings with his supporters.
“Yes, I am with him at Kirra Road (Police Station),” says Mbabazi’s lawyer Mr Severino Twinobusingye.
Mbabazi was pulled from his car by police that blocked his convoy at Njeru, at the Own Falls near Jinja town. From his car, Mbabazi was dragged to a waiting police double cabin vehicle that drove him towards Kayunga road.
Andrew Felix Kaweesi, Police director of operations, who oversaw the arrest, says the former NRM secretary general was asked to either drive back to Kampala or get arrested. He says Mbabazi opted to be arrested and he is under preventive arrest at Kira Road Police Station.
The police is yet to come up with a charge sheet for the former prime minister as they are locked in a meeting at the moment.
