Gen. Karenzi Karake Must Face Justice
The Great Lakes Human Rights Link has learnt that the notorious Rwandan General who was issued by arrest warrant by the Spanish Judge for crimes against humanity in the Rwandan Conflict is on the UK soil. The crimes against humanity were committed during and after Genocide against the Tutsis and Many Hutus who were massacred by the former RPF forces.
Gen Karenzi Karake
On the List of those suspected of committing the above international crimes against the mankind is the Rwandan General Karenzi Karake who is now the Rwandan Official Spy Chief. We have learnt that he is on an official duty in the United Kingdom, we therefore request the UK Government to bring the above General to Justice.
Accordingly we request our partners like Amnesty International to help and force the UK Government to bring Gen. Karenzi Karaki to trial on charges of war crimes for killing and torturing scores of civilians. He must now be tried for the widespread war crimes he is alleged to have committed. That would be good news for justice throughout Rwanda.
Indeed, Gen. Karenzi Karaki as one of the Senior Commanders of the then RPA Rebel group ordered combatants under his command to kill rape or abuse civilians during and after genocide. In some cases Karenzi Karaki could invite some people they wanted to kill for a meeting and later torture them before killing them to terrorize the local population or just for revenge. (Guhamagarwa munama ukitaba Imana).
Accordingly UK is a member of the European Union and is under legal and moral obligation to arrest Gen. Karenzi Karaki , The arrest and fair trial of General Karenzi Karaki will show the World and the Rwandan People that war crimes will be punished. This will be a valuable lesson for not only Rwanda but also other high profile war criminals in the Great Lakes region.
The presence of this international war criminal suspect on the UK soil gives the UK government an opportunity to arrest Gen. Karenzi Karaki basing on the European arrest warrant or the credible information already presented to them by different human rights organizations, that these Rwandan Security officers including Gen. Karenzi Karaki have been implicated in war crimes and crimes against humanity.
