Air Uganda has temporarily suspended all their flights from Entebbe to other destinations over what they termed as ‘the regulation of the industry’.

In a tweet posted on their account @AirUganda, the airline said they had temporarily suspended their flights from Entebbe Airport and apologised for any inconveniences that could have been caused.

The tweet came after a string of complaints online by travellers that were destined to use the airline to their destinations.

Red pepper online understands that the grounding is because the airline company is still in the process of re-applying for an Air Operator’s Certificate from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).

On Thursday, Air Uganda issued a statement explaining that the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ACAO)concluded a Uganda civil aviation systems, structures and operations and that the changes are as a result of this exercise.

In the statement, Air Uganda says following the exercise, CAA withdrew all Air Operator Certificates (AOCs) and the airlines are required to re-apply for the same.

The statement was signed by the Air Uganda Chief Executive Officer Cornwell Muleya.

CAA has not yet commented on this story.

Air Uganda flights have been off since June 17th after the notice for review of AOCs was received by the flight company.

Earlier speculation had indicated that the company had failed to meet flight standards but the company says the process applies to all airlines and it is not a problem within the infrastructure of the airline.

An Air Operating Certificate (AOC) is the document that allows air companies to fly to different destinations in the world. The process of acquiring one requires that the flight company satisfies flight regulation standards that are internationally recognised.

Air Uganda flies to all East African countries and South Sudan. Recently, a flight to Mogadishu in Somalia was added.
