“The global elite’s favourite strong man “ is losing relevance.
Over the past weeks , the overall dissatisfaction among the Rwandan Genocide Survivors has gone from mumbling and murmuring to bold condemnation of Mr Kagame’s leadership ; starting with Ms Diane Rwigara , many survivors have written their grievances and even reminded the General of his Presidential responsibility of safeguarding his people (as opposed to disappearing and murdering them) .
Protecting Survivors has for over 25 year been Paul Kagame’s vindication for despotism. Under the guise of being the bastion of Genocide Survivors, Kagame has repressed , oppressed, cleverly plundered and enriched himself , waged proxy wars with pseudo rebel groups with the sort of impunity that has left all keen observers speechless.
As far as Western interests in the African Great Lakes region are concerned, it is clear that stability outweighs democracy ; and so Mr Kagame can do no wrong whether he orders his assassins to kill in cold blood , or imprisons unjustly or asphyxiates free speech !
Everything is forgiven the ” hero ” who, as they seem to think , single -handedly put an end to the Genocide in Rwanda !
For every appalling human rights abuse, Mr Kagame comes up with grandiose projects to silence his critics to the extent that , to the question “ Are political opponents disappearing again in Kigali and being found beheaded?
The perverse ,yet apparently acceptable answer becomes …
– Mr Kagame commissions another ambitious infrastructure project ( – recent example, Kigali Arena ). “
Everything seems to be going well for Mr Kagame indeed ; were it not for the crack that is beginning to appear in his hero narrative.
Survivors of the Genocide against the Tutsi no longer seem to be willing to keep quiet about his suffocating impunity.
To add to this impending collapse of the Tutsi front, the arrogance that came with his “global elite’s favorite strong man” ‘s status, has reaped him nothing more than enmity and scorn from ALL his neighbors:
-Burundi no longer being able to suffer him and declaring Rwanda an enemy,
-Uganda sick and tired of his meddling,
-DRC condemned to chaperoning him to avoid another one of his devastating invasions and pillaging of it’s natural resources,
-The regional giant ,Tanzania , less and less amused by his lack of self-mastery and appalling impertinence.
-And Kenya now considering him as a liability to the future of East Africa.
Domestically, the system tailored to fit Mr Kagame’s needs is headed to a spectacular collapse .
His repression exposes Rwanda to unprecedented violence.
He has predictably ensnared himself into the trap of all dictators : crafting a grandiose image of himself and making it impossible to separate his person from the state and thus obstructing anyone to so much as consider a post Kagame era.
Rwanda faces a very dangerous predicament threatening what accomplishments have been achieved .
Fellow Rwandans, having put all this into perspective , I believe the question we ought to ask ourselves as a people today is – do we have a back up plan to the impending collapse of Mr Kagame’s house of cards?
