TO H.E, President Paul Kagame,

Republic of Rwanda

P.O Box 160 Kigali, Rwanda

Mr. President,

For the past fourteen years, Assiel Kabera’s family have been writing to you, asking you to fulfill the promises you stated in the letter of condolences that you will use all means at your disposal as a president, to bring the culprits to justice. Mr. Assiel Kabera was not someone who just disappeared. He was assassinated, in the cold blood, in front of his house not far from the president office, your office Mr. President.

After so many interventions by Assiel Kabera family to your office that have been ignored or swapped under the rug, the family has done its own investigation, and our findings have led to us to believe that Assiel Kabera’s assassination was well planned and executed by elements working on your behalf. These profound findings have made us to believe that, based on cold silence we have gotten on many letters we have wrote to you, the family have indeed, reached a sad conclusion but yet true, that Mr. Kabera was assassinated by your government. And that explain the reason of your government silence.

Mr. President, there is no need to remind you, that a government that sponsor the killings of its own citizens regardless of its presumed motivations, is doomed to fail. There is no exception to yours. Your government comes in power after the genocide that took the lives of more than one millions innocent lives. The stakes were high; all eyes were fixed up your government to see how it will handle the situation and heal the wounds. Mr. President, early in your reign, innocent people started to disappear, left and right and people could not understand what they were witnessing.

As years went by, it becomes a trend. Family after family started to wonder and could not believe that they own government would be behind all these disappearances.

Mr. President, we call up you to reverse this habit of ordering assassination of innocent people. These are the sons and daughters of Rwanda. The number of widows and orphans left behind is growing year after year. Is this how you want your legacy to be after you leave the office? No Mr. President, you will not want to end your presidency with this tainted reputation. Instead, to redeem yourself and leave the office on the positive note, we, Assiel Kabera’s family or any other families that become victim of your system, strongly urge you to let the justice system do its job and stop ordering assassinations.

Mr. President, fourteen years is a long time. If there were to justice to be done in this case, we would have seen it. That is why, we, the family of Assiel Kabera, have decided to let you know that we are disappointed and at the same time  inform you that we are very determined to seek justice by all means.

Sincerely,

On behalf of Assiel Kabera Family

Josue Kayjaho, MD,        sé
