According to the Cambridge dictionary , a THINK TANK is : “ an organization whose work is to study specific problems and suggest solutions , often with a political view”

Having taken into account the latest political developments in the Eat African Region and the Great Lakes Region of Africa in General , I feel compelled to address this message to all Rwandans who wish to see change for the better in our Homeland.

If  we are to achieve positive change in the manner our country is governed one day , it is important that we base our initiatives on accurately informed foresight.

It is  my opinion, fellow Rwandans hungry for democracy , that in our pursuit of a lasting solution to the Rwandan conflict the  time has come to establish a structure of reflection that would rise above politics and egos to look for solutions that would alleviate the disunity and and the yoke of poverty on our people afflicting our nation .

Soon ,  the Rwandan opposition will slowly and surely complete the process of organizing itself into definite political movements  with different propositions to the issue of democracy at hand .

Coalitions  have already  begun to form , non profit organisations  and institutes are being created etc…

What would reasonably follow the  formation of strong political coalitions is  political action leading to the implementation of the political  agendas of the said political movements .

Consequently,   the formation of a body of  theorists or as some would have it,   a reflection group , or what is commonly called a  THINK TANK is desperately needed at this time .

It is my belief , that the time has come  for the higher good of our nation , of our country , of our motherland , of the Rwanda we will leave to our offspring ,  to demand that great minds among us rise above political differences and sit together as a neutral core , dissecting  the problems at hand and proposing formulas that would solve them.

The dictatorship we are fighting has more than one think tank at its service , indifferently reflecting on  ways to increase the power and influence of its regime – hence its unfortunately successful smear campaigns and  upper hand in the media war against its opposition .

I personally believe that among other enterprises, a Rwanda opposition Think Tanks’ guidance would win many a battles  for democracy against the military dictatorship oppressing us all and I appeal to the non partisan learned among us who have managed to rise above ethnic differences  and political affiliation – particularly those who have observed the phenomenon of the Rwandan opposition over the past decade , to meditate on this issue and hopefully organize themselves in order to  give us this important and necessary platform to base our political action and credibility on .

We  need the sort of political maturity of  researched and recommended guidance that only a Think Tank can provide for meaningful political action in future .
