Pope Francis’ visit to Uganda still hangs in balance despite early excitements from many Ugandans.
According to leaders in the Catholic Episcopal Secretariat, the Pope has a fixed program from June up to October when he will host the ordinary synod of the bishops of the Catholic Church to discuss the role of families in The Vatican.

The General Secretary of the Secretariat Msgr John Kauta says the Pope’s Nuncio has not yet received any official statement from Rome about the much anticipated pope’s visit.

As the whole world and Uganda in particular remembers the Uganda martyrs, Lira Diocese has been chosen to lead this year’s martyr’s day celebrations at Namugongo shrine.
The 3rd June celebrations will be marked under the theme “Called to be witnesses of Christ in the family and in the society”.
The Bishop of Lira diocese Joseph Franzelli says the main focus of the celebrations will be strengthening unity in families and society especially as the country prepares for the 2016 general elections.
