LEAVE ME ALONE – MBABAZI TELLS HIS FOES
PM Amama Mbabazi.
Ugandan Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi has told the people of Kanungu district in the west of the country to remain calm and not panic about all the hype about his presumed presidential ambitions come 2016.
He assured them that that his Presidential bid talk is all nonsense, adding that if he ever harbors Presidential ambitions he will announce his candidature to the entire country.
Mbabazi made the remarks on Easter Sunday while addressing Christians at St Andrew’s Karubaizi Church of Uganda where he joined hundreds of Christians to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Mbabazi who was accompanied by his wife Jacqueline Mbabazi asked the congregation if he had ever lobbied any of them to vote for him as president to which they all said “no” in unison.
He said that standing for an elective position in Uganda is a right and nobody will stop him when he decides to stand for any position.
“Let those who are after me leave me alone,” Mbabazi said adding that he has been in the struggle for so long to ensure that the rights of all Ugandans are respected.
He likened the ruling National Resistance Movement to the spread of Christianity for whichJesus Christ died but has since amassed followers all over the world.
He particularly asked the youth to come out and talk openly whenever their rights are violated, saying that his generation started to fight for freedom in Uganda when they were youth.
“For the youth, you should be focused because we the old generation will soon leave and we are banking on you to takeover because we have already played our role,” Mbabazi said.
Earlier Mrs. Jacqueline Mbabazi told the congregation that as Canon in the church and the Chairperson of NRM Women’s League she will never shy away from speaking the truth.
“When you are a leader and fail to tell the truth, you let down the people you lead,” she said.
In his sermon, the Parish priest Rev. Justus Tukwasibwe said that the resurrection of Jesus Christ is the foundation of the Christian church and urged the congregation to renew their faith and rely on God to overcome the challenges they are facing.
