Habineza’s Petition to block third term for Kagame, is just Comedy.
The leader of the Rwanda’s Green Party, Mr. Frank Habineza said his party was challenging moves to change the constitution to allow President Paul Kagame to stand for a third consecutive term in elections in 2017.
“We submitted a lawsuit to the Supreme Court yesterday, demanding the court block parliament from any future plans to reform the constitution, especially article 101 about the lifting of presidential term limit,” party president Frank Habineza told AFP.
The Rwandan constitution, adopted in 2003, limits the number of presidential terms to two, and therefore bars Kagame — elected first in 2003 and again in 2010 — to stand for a third term.
But last week officials said parliament will over the next two months debate a change in the constitution in response to what Kagame’s aides have described a “popular demand”.
We all know that Mr. Frank Habineza will only legitimize the unchallenged lies of RPF and Kagame. He knows that all the Rwandan Judiciary is subject to the control of the RPF machinery that can fire and hire them? What else will Habineza challenge that he has not challenged before?
Why Frank Habineza is becoming a mole for the RPF at a time when the opposition should work together? Just recently he went to the court to challenge why Bank of Rwanda was using English on the new notes rather than the Three languages, according to Habineza this constitutes to violation of the Rwandan Constitution. We have never heard of the conclusion of this case.
The barbaric murder of his former Vice- President by the RPF has never been challenged to this very day, why cannot first put to task the Rwandan authorities to tell the World and the Rwandan people who killed Andrew Kagwa Rwisereka and why?
The Opposition leaders like Deo Mushayid, Ingabire Victoire, Bernard Ntaganda, just to mention a few, have never been given justice by the Rwandan judiciary, yet Frank Habineza has never come out strongly to condemn the unfair trials of all these political prisoners.
We still doubt the integrity and honest of Mr Frank Habineza in his new dealings with RPF, he came from Sweden and was allowed to register his party despite other political parties which have been denied registration or just barred by RPF to meet. He immediately joined the forum (MOVEMENT) of RPF which is the driving engine of the RPF party and policy making for the Political parties.
As usual Kagame and the RPF spin doctors have strongly denied that it is Kagame who is seeking a third term, insisting that the president — hailed by his supporters as a guarantor of post-genocide security and stability, as well as a champion of economic development — enjoys popular support for him to stay.
The announcement comes amid a wider controversy in Africa over efforts by leaders to change constitutions in order to stay in office.
Last year Burkina Faso’s former president Blaise Compaore was chased out after trying to extend his stay in power, while Rwanda’s southern neighbour, Burundi, has been gripped by weeks of civil unrest and experienced a coup attempt over President Pierre Nkurunziza’s attempt to do the same.
President Kagame should not be misled by his dictatorship and the handling of Rwandans at ransom, people might not go to streets to oppose him because they know he will kill them, but he should remember Museveni slogans of 1980s that if Obote rigs elections he will fight him, Kagame was part of the first group of the young people who resisted Obote, why is he forgetting that history very quickly?
