Cornyn calls on Kerry to intervene on behalf of adopted children
In his latest effort to help U.S. families bring adopted children from the Congo to their new home, Sen. John Cornyn reached out to Secretary of State John Kerry.

An administrative suspension by the Democratic Republic of the Congo has made it difficult, if not impossible for more than 460 children to obtain exit letters which would allow them tomove to America.
Cornyn said, “I urge Secretary Kerry, while in Kinshasa, to demand an immediate resolution from Congolese officials so these children can make their journey home to the United States.”
The Congolese government said the suspension was put in place to protect the “health and well-being of adopted children.”
In mid-April, Cornyn joined with 126 of his Senate and House colleagues in reaching out to the President and Prime Minister of the Congo, offering “to support your government in its efforts to assure that adopted Congolese children are safe and well-cared for.”
Cornyn is concerned not just for the children but their adoptive families and said, “Hundreds of American families—including a number of families in my home state of Texas—have been stuck in limbo for months, waiting to bring home their adopted children from the Democratic Republic of Congo.”
