The ISOF conference was organized by the US Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) that brings together special operations forces from all over the world every two years.
Admiral William H. McRaven, the Commander of USSOCOM, was the chief host of the event.
The special operations commanders discussed global trends in countering violent extremist organizations like the Al-Quaeda, Al-Shabaab and LRA among others before exploring ways on strengthening the relationship between their respective special operations forces.
Defence officials say the swift deployment of Uganda Special Forces in South Sudan after war broke out in December last year halted a possible genocide in the war-torn country.
By securing key state installations such as the airport, presidential palace, army headquarters and defence ministry not to mention impeding a rebel advance to Juba, the Special Forces created a conducive atmosphere for peace talks between President Salva Kiir and rebel leader, Riek Machar.
The Uganda elite force that guards the President has as well played a critical role in stabilising Somalia especially after wrestling Mogadishu from the hands of the Al Qaeda-linked Al-shabaab terrorists before spreading its tentacles to other parts of the country.
Other combat units of the Special Forces are hunting down LRA leader Joseph Kony and his followers in Central Africa Republic after destroying the rebel movement’s bases in Garamba, DRC.
SFC publicist, Maj Chris Magezi told Chimpreports on Friday that Admiral McRaven who hosted the event is a famous and respected special operator who has served for decades in the US Special Forces units.
“He is also the man who was principally responsible for planning and executing Operation ‘Neptune Spear’, the Navy Seal assault in Pakistan that led to the death of Osama Bin Laden, leader of the Al-Quaeda terrorist organization long accused by the U.S for responsibility of the September 11, 2001 terror attacks that killed thousands of Americans,” said Magezi.
