Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni
President Museveni said this a day after the United Kingdom cut aid to the Ugandan government accusing its officials of stealing over 5.2 billion shillings in aid money.
The president was commissioning the 36 –billion-shilling multi-level car park at Parliament that was completed last week and handed to the Speaker of Parliament.
President Museveni said that for 100 years Uganda has been donating to Britain through coffee. He explained that Uganda sells to UK 1kg of coffee at 1 dollar and that after processing it goes for 15 dollars.
He said he appreciates United Kingdom for paying back through the little money it gives Uganda, but told Ugandans that it is their duty to develop their country but not anybody else.
Museveni appealed to Members of Parliament to appreciate revenue coming from the Private Sector and Ugandan Consumers from whom the money that constructed the Parliamentary Parking came.
He said that now the main job of government should be to assist and support the private sector.
Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga noted that with the new parking, parliament has been able to improve parking space from 70 spaces to 510 spaces.
She told President Museveni that the ninth Parliament has been able to approve 21 loan requests directed at infrastructure development and that the House is working hard to support his manifesto.
Kadaga also noted that a number of laws in support of the country’s economy have been enacted.
