Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni on Tuesday met South Sudan President Salva Kiir, with whom he held discussions centering on various matters of bilateral and mutual interest between Uganda and South Sudan.

According to Sarah Kagingo, Special Presidential Assistant on Communications, the two leaders held talks at State House.

She however did not divulge any details of the meeting.

The South Sudan leader was among regional leaders that attended the 20th commemoration of the 1994 genocide. The commemoration was held on Monday at Stadium Amahoro in Kigali.

‘Ugandan Army In South Sudan’

Uganda’s army, the Uganda Peoples Defense Force has been in South Sudan since December last year after being called upon by the South Sudan government to help restore order that broke down following the conflict that erupted as a result of a political dispute between Mr Kiir and his former deputy Riek Machar on 15 December.

Last month, UPDF spokesman, Lt. Colonel Paddy Ankunda said the army will pull out of South Sudan when the Intergovernmental Authority on Development’s forces arrives in the country.

East African leaders under IGAD agreed to send troops to conflict-hit South Sudan to help enforce a ceasefire deal between the government of President Salva Kiir and rebels led by his ex-deputy.
