Kampala.

Forum for Democratic Change presidentMugisha Muntu has warned the oppositionthat they are “running out of time” in the preparations for a post-Museveni era.

“If an opposition political party is to turn around Uganda’s economic and political fortunes in a potential post-President Museveni era, it has to be ready for challenges ahead,” Gen Muntu said at a meeting graced by Speaker Rebecca Kadaga, .

Gen Muntu sounded the warning as the opposition met at Parliament for the second time in one week.

Ten proposed electoral reforms to guarantee free and fair polls in 2016 and the fate of the Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago have been at the centre of both meetings.

The opposition is also planning on how they can respond in the event that the government again fails to accept proposed reforms. Yesterday, a motion planned to be tabled in Parliament to compel the government to allow Mr Lukwago resume office fell through after a scheduled plenary session was again adjourned.

The courts are hearing a series of petitions in which Mr Lukwago is challenging plans by the Electoral Commission and the government to organise a by-election yet a judge has affirmed he is still the Lord Mayor
