Kagame’s “Long Walk to Freedom†From His Crimes
So Kagame has been “exonerated†by French judges from killing Habyarimana? Fat chance. But suppose that were true, does that shorten Kagame’s “long walk to freedom†from his crimes?
Hardly.
As a Rwandan human rights activist, Augustin Munyemana, put it in 2010, “even though Kagame did not finish the high school and has no school diploma, he has mastered the techniques of killing.
This article which draws from Munyemana’s 2010 piece on Kagame killings, is written by an AD reader from Kigali named Tuzatsinda. For the original Munyemana article refer to http://www.opednews.com/articles/1/President-Paul-Kagame-is-a-by-Augustin-Munyemana-100912-227.html

AD and pen fighters, we are led basically by a very clever but psychologically damaged individual. Clever because he gets away literally with murder in shocking numbers. How many people have died on this man’s orders no one knows. Psychologically damaged because he believes that killing people solves problems. Nevertheless let us briefly look at the nightmare of Kagame killings since 1990. This is not exhaustive by any means.
Besides assassinations, Kagame stands accused of mass killings of Hutu and Tutsi civilians in Rwanda since October 1, 1990. People were rounded up away from public view, executed and dumped in mass graves. The destruction of the internally displaced people in Kibeho Camp in Rwanda (1995) comes to mind. Atrocities in Eastern Congo too comes to mind (1996-2004). So do the killing of hundreds thousands of people dumped into River Akagera. The Gersony report about mass killing inside Rwanda in 1994 as well as the more recent UN report about genocide in DRC are mere tips of iceberg Kagame’s crimes against humanity.
When it comes to assassination, what is equally shocking, is the long list of innocent people that Kagame has wiped out over the past 20 years.
RPF story between 1991 and 1994 is yet to be written by a brave insider. What is known however is that Kagame run death-squads that infiltrated Rwanda to conduct targeted assassinations of prominent politicians and local administrative leaders who had actively denounced RPF. Perhaps the climax of this phase of Kagame rampage was the 1994 attack and killing of clergymen, including the Archbishop of Kigali, Vincent Nsengiyumva, the Bishop of Byumba, Joseph Ruzindana, the Bishop of Kabgayi Thaddee Nsengiyumva and Mgr Innocent Gasabwoya.
After Kagame took power in 1994 and installed a figurehead as head of state, his killing intensified. A few widely known killings include:
Kagame’s death squads killed the first post-genocide Attorney General of Alphonse Marie Nkubito in February 1997. Independent mindedness saw Nkubito fall out with Kagame. Nkubito moved to establish the first Rwandan Human Rights Organization, and dared point his accusing finger to Kagame civilian killings.
Vincent Nsanzabaganwa, former chairman of the Rwandan Security Council, was murdered by Kagame’s death squads at his home in KigaliCity on 14 February 1997.
The same year saw Colonel Stanslas Hakizimana killed by Kagame’s death-squads together with his whole family. Hakizimana was Kagame’s classmate at the US Army Command and Staff College in Leavenworth, Kansas.
On December 26, 2002, Kagame’s secret services shot and killed Mr. Gratien Munyarubuga, a co-founder of the Democratic Party for Renewal (PDR-Ubuyanja).
The year 2003 was a disaster for Rwandans. Colonel Cyiza, former vice-president of Rwandan appeal court was abducted and body dumped – he never recovered.
Dr Leonald Hitimana was killed and his body dumped into the Nyabarongo River. A Law maker in the transitional assembly, Dr. Hitimana, member of the Republican Party, was a vocal opponent of one party rule that Kagame was imposing.
Damien Musayidizi disappeared before his body was found in a bush near Kigali.
Fast track to June 20, 2010, when Denis Ntare Semadwinga was assassinated at his home in Gisenyi by Kagame’s death squads. Mr. Semadwinga was a close ally of General Laurent Nkunda currently imprisoned in Rwanda without trial.
And then the famous case of July 13, 2010, when Andre Kagwa Rwisereka, Vice President of the Rwandan Green Party, went missing. His body nearly decapitated, he was found a Butare swamp.
On the same day, Kagame’s death squads struck in Tanzania, killing Professor Jwani Timothy Mwaikusa, who was a lead lawyer of Yussuf Munyakazi at the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) in Arusha, Tanzania.
Kagame has not spared journalists and other critical voices. To cover up all his wrongdoings and suppress the truth about what happened in Rwanda since October 1990, Kagame targeted independent reporters and investigative journalists. Journalists have since been killed while many others sought asylum abroad.
On August 1995, Manasse Mugabo, director of the United Nations radio stations disappeared and his body was never recovered.
In April 1997, Mr. Apollo Hakizimana, editor of Umuravumba, was assassinated a week after authorities seized his journal for reporting RPF massacres of Hutu civilians in Northern and Western Rwanda.
On March 7, 1998, Father Andre Sibomana, reporter for the Catholic Church journal, Kinyamateka, was killed by starvation in Gitarama.
In May 1998, Mr. Emmanuel Munyemanzi, head of production at TV Rwanda, was killed two months after his boss accused him of sabotage by covering sensitive information regarding Hutu civilian deaths.
In May 2003, Mr. Eduard Mutsinzi, editor of the Messenger Newspaper, was assassinated for publishing information about the plan put in place by the RPF to rig the 2003 Presidential elections. Mr. Mutsinzi was abducted, beaten and left with broken ribs; his eyes were taken out and his brain damaged.
On June 24, 2010, Jean Leonard Rugambage, editor of Umuvugizi newspaper, was shot and killed in front of his house in KigaliCity. His journal had just published an article alleging that the Rwandan Government was behind the attempted murder of General Kayumba Nyamwasa in South Africa.
On 30 November 2011, Charles Ingabire the publisher of Inyenyeri News, a vigorous Kagame critic was murdered in Kampala, Uganda.
So Kagame, continue to celebrate your being “exonerated†from killing Habyarimana. Does that shorten your long walk to freedom from your crimes though?
Your long walk just began. Where will it end no one knows. In sewage pipe? In a bunker? In Hague? Match on Sir!
African dictator.
