A total of 20 people have been Killed by the Allied Democratic forces in Kyavikere, Rwenzori sector about 70 Kilometers north of Beni in the North Kivu province of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The Ugandan rebels have for long been active in the area.

Thirteen people were killed on Saturday night while more eight people were killed on Sunday  in the areas of Musuku and Biangolo, two villages in the Kyavikere group.

Most of those killed were women and girls who were raped before being hacked to death.

The rebels are said to have gone on rampage after the United Nations intervention brigade announced a plan to launch an offensive against them if they do not disarm.

The rebels who have already started leaving their bases of Tshutshugo and Nadui northeast of Beni towards Eastern Province are said to have turned very wild, torturing locals in the villages they pass through.

Bozi Sindiwako, the head of the Rwenzori sector confirms the killings and says that most of those killed are inhabitants of the towns of Bulongo, Mutwanga and Kikingi while many others were abducted either in their gardens or on different roads by the ADF.

Colonel Olivier Hamuli the Congolese military spokesman in North-Kivu province says that the Congolese government forces are planning to launch an offensive on the rebels who have stubbornly refused to heed calls for disarmament.

The Congolese government forces backed by the United Nations intervention brigade have already launched an offensive against the Rwandan rebels FDLR rebels forcing them to abandon their bases.
