PK1The Rwandan Supreme Court’s ruling on the appeal of imprisoned opposition leader Ms. Victoire Ingabire Umuhoza is expected this Friday 13 December 2013.Ingabire, leader of Rwanda’s FDU-Inkingi Party, was arrested three years ago, in October 2010, after attempting to run for president against sitting President Paul Kagame. The fate of Ingabire was clear from the day (16 January 2010) she arrived in Rwanda. In an interview given to the Ugandan newspaper Monitor the President Kagame declared that she (Ms. Ingabire) “has to be “where she belongs,” implying she deserved to be in prison.

On Friday 22 November 2013, another key leader of the FDU-Inkingi, Sylvain Sibomana( the party’s Interim Secretary General) has been sentenced to two years in prison.

Alongside them many other members of FDU-Inkingi are imprisoned or reported missing. Most of them are young people who aspire to a free and democratic Rwanda:

Ms. Leonia Gasengayire
V.Uwiringiyimana
Tuganemungu Chris
S.Hitimana
Valens.Uwiringiyimana

Despite the efforts of the Kagame’s regime to destroy them, the FDU-Inkingi are becoming stronger and are not ready to give up.

The FDU-Inkingi call upon Rwanda’s key partners to urge President Paul Kagame to immediately release these and other political prisoners.
