SA deploys troops to DRC
South African troops have begun deploying to the Democratic Republic of Congo’s volatile east as part of a special UN brigade to battle armed rebels, a junior minister said Friday.
“South African troops are on their way to the DRC now,” deputy foreign minister Ebrahim Ebrahim told reporters.
South Africa has pledged 1345 soldiers to the first-ever offensive United Nations brigade.
Tanzania and Malawi are also part of the 3000-strong force, which began deploying to Goma on May 13.
“The Tanzanians are already on the ground,” said Ebrahim.
The eastern Congo has been the scene of intense fighting between the Congolese army and the M23 rebels, an armed group launched by Tutsi former soldiers who mutinied in April 2012.
SA Soldiers, what for????!!!! The effort international community is using through UN Intervention Special Brigade is nothing. They should concentrate on talks between all enemies in our great lake region. Tanzanian President proposal is vital. As a Rwandan that’s an advice our President Kagame should take and implement seriously. Military forces will not resolve our problems but talks yes. Why not talk while we always claim to be brothers and sisters!!!??? It’s very simple to identify all climinals and trial them or give them an amnesty than deploy all means you have to military option for hunting and killing your enemy. Comeone Kagame, comeone Rwandans, nobody is perfect to judge another. Just leave our neighbours alone, sit down and talk, discuss and find a solution to build our Rwanda.
