TORTURE IN UGANDA: PEN Prize award winner Kakwenza Rukirabashaija recounts his ordeal.
Rukirabashaija’s recounting of his ordeal is harrowing.
As the saying goes, a picture is worth a thousand words. Here are a few:
Even though this young man has been called out of his name since the publication of his work that many saw as a direct attack on President Museveni’s rule, it is unacceptable to treat people like this in a civilized society! This loss of control is taking Uganda into a dark age. Because they could not face the complexity of suing this author for a work that he had indicated to be of fiction, Rukirabashaija’s abusers choose barbarity and cruelty.
An author’s creativity should not be limited by the sensitivities of presidential palaces. How many more wrongs like this will it take for individual rights to be respected in Uganda and Africa in general?
