Rwanda: Peacekeepers Raise Rwf75 Million for Agaciro Fund
Rwandan peace keepers serving in western Sudan’s volatile region of Darfur under the UN-AU hybrid mission (UNAMID) on Thursday raised US$120,000 for the Agaciro development Fund.
The money was raised during a fundraising dinner organized at the mess hall of Rwanbatt 33 in El Fasher, UNAMID headquarters, a Friday e-mail received by The Sunday Times reads.
The RDF maintains over 3,000 peacekeeping troops in Darfur under UNAMID.
Lt Gen Patrick Nyamvumba, UNAMID Force Commander, says the fundraising was attended by civilians, police and military officers from all the corners of Darfur.
At the end of the fundraising function, Lt. Gen. Nyamvumba, expressed his appreciation for the enthusiasm displayed by all Rwandans at the event who contributed to the Agaciro Development Fund.
He reminded the gathering that Rwandan peacekeepers in Darfur were known for promoting the dignity of Darfuris by way of committed and professional peacekeeping even at the cost of many lives.
“Tonight, you have taken the battle for Agaciro to another level,” the Force Commander said during the function.
The Head of Rwanda’s Diplomatic Mission in Sudan, Colonel Muzungu Munyaneza, also attended the event, as well as officers from RDF headquarters in Kigali headed by Brig Gen Dr Charles Rudakubana, head of Peace Support Operations Department.
