Lumbala, a despicable warlord whose ragtag rebel group of murderers, notorious for their rape and cannibalism in Ituri ( DRC) has been going about the VIP world of mineral traffickers becoming a prominent figure and even a presidential aspirant in the Democratic Republic of Congo’s puzzling political arena!

His arrest would be a good step in the right direction if only it didn’t feel like a political maneuver to ease the guilt of the liberal heavyweights behind the Nobel Peace Prize. 

Something had to give to Dr. Mukwege’s outrage. 

Even if it could also be seen as an insult to the victims’ intelligence, this cleverly orchestrated development is, of course, good news for those who have been denied justice for 23 years by their government and by the ever bystander international community: Here is a man who is responsible for crimes against humanity who has enjoyed notoriety for years, traveling first class to western capitals where he was welcomed for decades, his crimes whitewashed in the name of “ stability” at the expense of thousands of broken lives- who is suddenly fished out and paraded as the poster boy of international justice!

Would it be too pessimistic to say that Lumbala probably just happens to be the most expendable on the long list of the criminal clique plaguing the African Great Lakes at the moment?

If we are to read more than a stunt into this arrest, if we are to believe it has anything to do with the recommendations of the 2010 UN Mapping Report ( DRC), then there need to be more arrests.
