As I sit in the comfort of my peaceful abode in a leafy suburb in Europe, I read with amusement an article online of THE RWANDAN, in which it mentions Ambassador Kimonyo’s exploits of pleading with Rwandans in America to attend RWANDA DAY in Boston because President Kagame is scheduled to be the guest of honour and the honourable Ambassador cannot afford losing his job if the President addresses a half empty hall.

All I can think of is the madness Rwandans are afflicted with these days all in the name of protecting their jobs, property, and businesses…..no matter what the regime dictates. Would it mean the end of his world if Ambassador Kimonyo lost his job? Or is it the title/respect that comes with being called “Ambassador” that frightens/forces Kimonyo to travel to Maine to negotiate with Rwandans to attend Rwanda Day? Surely, should Rwandans be blackmailed into praising Kagame even in exile where they have sought refuge from his dictatorship?
Are all these maneuvers in tandem with the expression “Agaciro”?
Does this mean that even in exile we lack “Agaciro”?
Now this buzz word has transcended into financially fleecing Rwandans of the little earnings in the name of “Agaciro”, if you do not contribute towards this sham Development fund, then you are not worthy of “Agaciro” (your life becomes hell on earth!)…..
As I write this article on the eve of Rwanda Day in Boston, I shudder to think of all those Rwandans who will attend this bogus function irrespective of the suffering of their brethren, who sleep on empty stomachs, who roam the forests of Congo in search of a good night’s sleep, the teachers who will tend their shambas at daybreak before they go off to teach and the policemen who will ask for a bribe quietly so that their families will eat for another day.
I say I shudder because I know that the Rwandans in America on Rwanda Day will not ask the President those pertinent questions that they are entitled to ask or should ask, instead, many will be jostling to submit their resumes to the dictator in search of a juicy position, some will be negotiating an end to their exile a la Pierre Celestin Rwigema and majority will be signing up voluntarily to be “intore”…..That is the madness that has afflicted our people!
• To imagine a people who will not ask the President to account for the savage reputation our country has earned internationally lately.
• To imagine a people who continue to propagate the fiasco Rwanda Day knowing full well that it is not something to celebrate fiscally when the Rwandan treasury is dismally empty.
• To imagine a people who live in the comfort of Americas borders yet they turn a blind eye to the suffering of fellow Rwandans and Congolese on Rwanda’s borders!
I ask you fellow Rwandans in North America, why is it that you continue to seek refuge in America and Canada if Rwanda means so much to you?
Why shouldn’t you measure President Kagame using the same measuring yardstick as the one Americans are using to measure both Barack Obama and Mitt Romney? Make him accountable for the decisions he makes. Rwandans back home look up to you to give them guidance!
In reference to that article online of THE RWANDAN where we hear audio of Rwandan intore in America discussing the logistics/preparations for Rwanda Day, I am ashamed to hear the voice of a son of the great Pierre Mungarurile. Pierre Mungarulire was a nationalist to the core, inyangamugayo who was a Rwandan Patriot. Sadly, little can be said of his offspring Bosco Munga who has chosen to protect his title of the RPF- face of Bourbon Café’s North America against the interests of Rwandan Nationalism. But then again, like I said earlier, there are those who will go to great ends to jostle for a piece of the pie at whatever cost!
