South Africa no longer “headquartering” political refugee dissent movements?
Following the Xenophobic violence that spread over South Africa in 2019, a puzzling new law restricting refugee’s political activities, among many other regulations that seem to be intent on discouraging immigration, is in effect (as of January 1st, 2020).

Sources in the Rwandan Diaspora in South Africa, refugees and immigrants tell us they are left wondering if this law is not intended to frustrate the activities of exiled General Kayumba Nyamwasa who according to some South African officials: “… has undoubtedly overstayed his welcome and … source of enough palaver …”.
On the other hand, conspiracy theorists are already debating on the ” momentum ” of this law; some analysts calling it the latest move in a wider wager in the East African regional dominance scheme, arguing that with regards to Mr. Nyamwasa, this law may be designed to accommodate Kagame in order to lure him into believing that he has succeeded in frustrating his regional counterparts, while they bid for time to rally their interests and create a robust economic coalition that would ultimately overcome Mr. Kagame’s PR Machine shield, bringing about his clearcut defeat.
