Brig Gen Vincent Nyakarundi while in Washington

President Paul Kagame on Monday evening appointed the Defence Attaché at Rwanda’s embassy in Washington, U.S.A, as chief of military intelligence.

Brig Gen Vincent Nyakarundi is the new Chief of Defense Intelligence, leading the coveted RDF Defence Intelligence Department (DID).

This body was created in July last year from the J2 Department or commonly known at the time as DMI.

Brig Gen Nyakarundi replaces Col Andrew Nyamvumba, who has been moved to Defence Research and Development of the Ministry of Defence (MoD).

Other appointments made by President Kagame is that of the Air Force Chief of Staff which fell vacant following appointment of Maj. Gen. Charles Karamba as envoy to Tanzania this past July.

The new Air Force Chief of Staff is Maj Gen Emmanuel Bayingana.

Back in October last year, Maj Gen Bayingana was appointed CEO of the military’s large bank Zigama Credit & Savings Society (Zigama CSS). He had replaced Maj Gen Albert Murasira who had been elevated to Defence Minister.
