Dr David Himbara : “Diane Rwigara did it again.”
Diane Shima Rwigara is one of those rare courageous women that unexpectedly descend on planet earth and do what billions fear to do — confront monstrous rulers and repressive systems. Think of Rosa Parks, an African American woman who unleashed the civil rights movement in the United States. Think of Emmeline Pankhurst who fought for the women’s vote in Britain, enduring imprisonments but fighting to change the world forever.
Diane Rwigara belongs to that category of rare women leaders who do the unthinkable — daring to believe they can change the world. Diane Rwigara has endured imprisonment for fighting for human rights in Rwanda but she will not be silenced. With her mother Adeline Rwigara and her Bible, Diane Rwigara stood up to power, no matter what.
And on July 15, 2019, Diane Rwigara did it again. She openly challenged the Rwandan totalitarian ruler, General Paul Kagame to stop killing the people of Rwanda. Diane Rwigara knows the consequences of her actions. She risks being thrown into prison, or meeting a mysterious accident, or simply disappearing, which are the routine means by which Kagame removes people who dare challenge him. But women like Diane Rwigara do not consider their lives worth anything if they shut their eyes and ears to the human suffering. These women think of themselves last, and the people first.
May God the Almighty protect Diane Rwigara.
