CONGOLESE TROOPS ARE SHELLING ADF TERRITORY IN NORTH KIVU

Rebel Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) have inflicted heavy casualties on Congolese forces, raising fears about the country’s ability to contain the armed movement in North Kivu.

DRC forces (FARDC) last week commenced military operations against ADF using tanks and infantry.

However, at around 4:00am on Friday, ADF launched two simultaneous attacks on Parikingi and Abiolos, killing five soldiers.

With FARDC struggling to reinforce isolated outposts amid the insurgent offensive, observers fear the war against ADF could take longer than expected.

President Museveni has since urged DRC to allow UPDF access into DRC to support the military operation against ADF.

Officials told ChimpReports that ADF rebels engaged DRC troops in a heavy battle that lasted about two hours in what is known as the death triangle between Mbau-Kamango and Eringeti.

But FARDC’s operation spokesperson, Captain Mak Hazukay, said four ADF militants were taken out of action.

He said two guns and radio set were recovered from the rebels. Capt. Mak said “our forces are concentrating on two villages where ADF have been operating from.
