The new appointment was revealed Thursday night by army spokesperson Brig Richard Karemire.

He said the deployment follows a “Distinguished long time service.”

Asked why the appointing authority thought Kavuma deserved the position, Karemire said the General “has served in many command positions including Division Commander, Force Commander African Union Joint Task Force against LRA as well as Contingent Commander of UPDF in Somalia.”

He is also Chairman of UPDF Wassaco.

Maj Gen Kavuma will now deputise Major General Peter Elweru.

The deployment comes at a time the army is strengthening training of infantry forces.

Karemire said Kavuma completed his Senior Command and Staff College as well as National Defence College Military Courses in Karen Nairobi.

Pressed by ChimpReports to cite examples of excellence on the battlefield, Karemire said Kavuma commanded a Division in Northern Uganda, operated against the LRA in Central African Republic and fought decisive battles against the Alshabab in Somalia

Maj Gen Kavuma joined the National Resistance Army in 1981.
