The thing to know about Rwandan President Paul Kagame is not just that he is a dictator responsible for human rights abuses but that, despite this, he has a great many friends and admirers.

Kagame, perceived as commanding the rebel force that put an end to Rwanda’s genocide Two decades ago, has made himself a global celebrity. He has been invited by Coca Cola to deliver a lecture at Yale University. This is unbecoming at the Time when American people are choosing their next president after the term of President Obama expires next year.

While this tyrant cannot be allowed to rule their country, they should not allow him a space for lecturing them on human rights that don’t exist at all in his tiny country.

Interestingly, the Yale officials have been referring to the Rwandan state media that have called Kagame exemplary in prompting human rights and as such he has a place in one of the best Universities on Earth. This is not only a distortion of facts but misguided information by even the most elite class in the World.  But this should not surprise many because Kagame has used all the Rwandan limited resources to lobby all the international Companies like Coca Cola, Starbucks, and some American Wealth People like Buffet  just to mention a few despite his own people starving to death.

But none of these companies or big personalities mentioned above could allow or trade their Human Rights, freedom of assembly and press freedom with the so called remarkable progress. Why didn’t the Yale University consult even its own Faculty on Human Rights?

Public figures that are invited by the Yale University should have clean hands and clean records but a man whose hands are wet by blood of innocent people should never be given a platform by the champions of democracy and human rights.

However, Kagame’s lobbyists among them Bill Clinton hails him as among “the greatest leaders of our time and uses his influence to rally support for this man considered worse than  Sani Abacha of Nigeria or Hissène Habré of Chad. The American Administration of Mr. Obama knows that Rwanda;s president changed the Constitution and is vying to extend his rule after his term expires next year.  Kagame has continued to suffocate all the political space and all his critics are incarcerated, in exile or killed and has not allowed competitive politics.

Kagame previously has spoken at Harvard and received honorary doctorates from a number of universities in the United States and Europe. U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon is also a fan, telling Kagame , “I hope many African nations will emulate what Rwanda is doing. I highly commend you.” The praise inside Rwanda, in the press and public forums, is even more effusive. When you ask Rwandan citizens why there is no criticism of their president, you will be told there is nothing to criticize. The political “opposition” consists of parties that refuse to speak out against Kagame even during elections, and now they have already scrapped the constitution’s two-term limit for presidents so he can run in 2017 and until 2034.

Kagame is a murderer who doesn’t conceal his prey, not only does the president justify a murder he even warns those he thinks would challenge his authority. He shocked his audience and the World when he said that betraying Rwanda brings consequences.  This was after the brutal murder of his own comrade and spy chief who he murdered in South Africa on the New Years Eve of 2014. In fact, in Kagame’s Two decades as the de facto leader of the country, more than a dozen prominent dissidents have been assassinated, imprisoned, exiled and tortured. According to Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International, half a dozen of well-known investigators, journalists and opposition politicians have also been found dead in mysterious circumstances, including, a Rwandan Transparency International worker who was investigating police corruption.

None the less Institutions like Yale University are still lining up at Kagame’s doors with Invitations to a give a lecture on Human Rights, we urge the officials of the Yale University to consult with Human Rights Experts and know the truth about this remaining tyrant on the African Continent.
