Addressing media with Museveni today morning at Kapchorwa State Lodge, he claimed that Museveni has got the capacity to campaign for himself.

“The power to choose who leads Uganda lies in the hands of Ugandans. Museveni has the capacity to campaign on his own,” he said, adding “President Museveni has been campaigning in Uganda for a long time. I don’t think he requires the support of Kenyans.”

However, a top NRM cadre told Red Pepper yesterday that Ruto’s visit is meant to show that government of Kenya is behind Museveni and the ruling party.

In October, Kenya’s leading opposition figure Raila Odinga hosted Ugandan opposition leaders including Kizza Besigye and Amama Mbabazi as he urged them to front a joint candidate.

Recently, Ruto personally met disgruntled losers in the NRM primaries from Sebei region urging them not to abandon National Resistance Movement (NRM) for Independent presidential candidate Amama Mbabazi.

He said the visit was meant to confirm and underscore partnership between countries on projects that will bring region’s people together.

“We have challenges of security on both sides. Uganda is ahead of us on the matter of curbing cattle rustling.  Uganda has disarmed all its people. We are also resolved to do the same on Kenyan side. Collaboration is key,” he noted.

President Museveni said those saying that Ruto is interested in Ugandan/NRM politics are spreading “another rumor.”
