Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) candidate Dr. Kizza Besigye has dared incumbent president Yoweri Kaguta Museveni who is also National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer to come for a presidential debate and they show the truth.

Speaking at a rally in Eastern Uganda, Besigye said Museveni should not stand far way and start criticizing his promises.

“You know in other countries, those contesting engage in a debate together, I want Museveni to come and sit with other candidates so that each can show how their proposals will work,” Besigye said in Luganda stirring up cheers from the crowd. “I should not talk here and he goes to Koboko and says he is a liar.”

Besigye was responding to Museveni’s argument that his proposal to pay primary school teachers a one million salary is reckless and can damage the National Resistance Movement (NRM) prioritisation mission.

“Kizza Besigye is thinking about his reckless plan of increasing wages at the expense of infrastructure. We are putting the main money on things that are used by everybody. Roads are used by veterans, their families etc…” Museveni said. “Besigye wants to destroy prioritization (what we are doing). (He says) Let’s not work on dams, but increase salaries.”

Besigye’s proposal has been criticized by a number of NRM officials who say that it is unattainable.

It not clear if Museveni will accept to join other candidate for the first ever presidential debate.
