No vocabulary can serve to describe the size of the crowds that turned up today at Nakivubo stadium, downtown Kampala as former Prime Minister John Patrick Amama Mbabazi launched his campaign ahead of 2016 presidential polls.

All roads leading to Nakivubo stadium were temporarily closed, rendering some sections of Jinja road and downtown roads impassable due to the huge crowds that turned to the election campaign inaugural rally.

Mbabazi was nominated today morning, 11:00am (local time) at Mandela national stadium, Namboole.

Bicycle riders, Motorcycle, and cars started off their procession at Kireka!!

Business was brought to a standstill along Jinja road where Mbabazi supporters demanded that he walks with them to Nakivubo Stadium.

With a heavy downpour, Mbabazi supporters were never threatened and they continued the walk to Nakivubo.

Shortly after his nomination, Mbabazi said that; “I am happy that I am now officially a candidate for president in elections of 2016,” adding that; “Today I respond to all that was being said about my candidature. From today, Uganda will be at a different level in our politics.”

He blasted his party for harassing his supporters.

“I am worried about the way my supporters are treated. I hope I will not witness this in my life time again,” he roared before saying that; “I cannot believe the NRM that fought for freedom, rule of law can do all they are doing (to my supporters)”

On Change Mbabazi assured his supporters that what they have been yearning for is coming.

“Our people are yearning for change, and I am sure they will achieve it.”
