Col Kyakabale drums up Kigezi support for Museveni
Unlike Gen David Sejusa who returned from exile and immediately started associating with the Opposition, Lt Col Anthony Kyakabale, has started canvassing support for President Museveni’s candidature in Kigezi sub-region for the 2016 general election.
Col Kyakabale praised Mr Museveni for his programmes on poverty eradication, education, good road network, security and rural economic development.
Col Kyakabale was speaking to journalists on Thursday in Kabale town shortly after meeting the Resident District Commissioner. He said was campaigning for Mr Museveni out of his personal conviction.
Lt Col Kyakabale returned from exile in March this year and has since reconciled with government. He went into exile in 2001 and declared war against Museveni’s government.
“President Museveni is my best candidate for 2016 general elections because he has demonstrated good leadership by tolerating even those that oppose and abuse him. I have already established a network of youth and women groups in Kigezi sub-region to begin vigorous campaigns for him. Those opposed to President Museveni are wasting time because he is the one that made them what they are and has the means to undo them. Let us give him chance to serve until he retires,” Mr Kyakabale said.
Mr Kyakabale, currently at his home in Rukiga County in Kabale District, said he had started liaising with resident district commissioners and NRM party district offices in Kigezi sub-region for coordinated Museveni’s campaigns.
Asked whether he had ever been rewarded for his participation in the Rwandan Patriotic Army liberation war in the 1990’s, Mr Kyakabale said he had not received anything but added that he believes President Paul Kagame still remembers his contribution to liberate Rwanda.
Kigezi is significant given that Amama Mbabazi and Kizza Besigye who are challenging Mr Museveni come from the sub-region.
