KABALE. A widow in Kabale District, who offered her home to be used as an armoury by Rwanda Patriotic Front rebels during the 1990-94 liberation war, has praised Rwandan government for responding promptly to her call for medical treatment.
Ms Modesta Nyabuhara, 75, a resident of Maziba Sub-county, was in March 2014 diagnosed with hypertensive heart disease at SASA Cardiology Clinic in Kampala. She was referred to India or South Africa, but could not raise the Shs50m required for the operation.
“I am grateful to the Rwandan government for the quick response and timely treatment offered to me. This was after my appeal was published in Sunday Monitor newspaper of May 31. Barely one week after the publication, a group of men from Rwandan government visited my home for verification. They sent a message that I should get an attendant and find them at Kamwezi border,” Ms Nyabuhara said at her home on Thursday.
“I picked my daughter, Ms Sarah Mirabyo, and went to Kamwezi where we found a military car with soldiers. They took me to Rwanda Military Hospital where I spent five days on treatment. I returned from Rwanda last week. I am now feeling better. Though I was not operated on I was treated as a hero,” she added.
Ms Nyabuhara said she would be more grateful if the Rwandan government also built for a her a decent house and sponsor her grandchildren’s education.
