Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Youth Chairman for Namugongo in Kaliro district Paul Kalikwani has been arrested on President Yoweri Museveni’s directive.

Kalikwani was one of the members attending a youth meeting with the president at wash and wills hotel Maluku.

Kalikwani who was presenting youth issues from Busoga sub region was first booed by fellow youths who accused him of swindling money that was given to NRM youths’ in Busoga about two years ago.

He was also accused of personalizing a tractor that was given to the youth of Busoga.

Upon receiving the complaint, President Yoweri Museveni directed that Kalikwani be detained as investigations into the matter continue. He was whisked out of the meeting to Mbale Police station for interrogation.

Diana Nandawula the Elgon Region spokesperson confirms the development and adds that police will record statements from the complainants as soon as the youth meeting is closed.

The suspect will then be transferred to Kaliro, where the alleged crimes were committed, Nandawula adds.
